Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa
Rāvaṇa's abduction of Sītā while Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa are decoyed by Mārīca.
That sorcerer, having lured both princes far away, abducted the wife of Rāma, slaying the vulture Jaṭāyus.
With his left hand he grasped lotus-eyed Sītā by her hair, and with his right hand he clasped her about the thighs.
Having spoken thus to the Maithilī — who deserved only kind treatment, who spoke sweet words — Rāvaṇa seized Sītā as the planet Mercury seizes Rohiṇī in the sky.
