Bhagīratha, the royal sage, righteous and of great splendour, O delight of the Raghu line, was childless;
"And may offspring be granted, O god, so that our lineage does not perish — let the line of the Ikṣvākus not decline, O god.
And the royal sage Bhagīratha, of great splendour, mounted his divine chariot and drove forward, while Gaṅgā followed behind him.
