On the Nature of the Gods
Greek thinker held to have denied the existence of the gods.
but Protagoras declared himself in doubt, while Diagoras of Melos and Theodorus of Cyrene held that there are no gods at all.
But Diagoras, that one who is called the Atheist, when he had come to Samothrace, and a certain friend said to him:
'The gods,' he says, 'do not take note of all things, not even kings.
