Ansāb al-ʻArab al-qudamāʼ
The Arab historian who writes this treatise: he receives Margoliouth's objection, reads Robertson Smith's book in full, and undertakes to refute the attribution of mother-right and totemism to the pre-Islamic Arabs.
We look now at the matter only from the side that touches us, and we shut our eyes to the soundness or the unsoundness of this doctrine, and inquire into what Professor Robertson Smith intended by applying it to the Arabs before Islam.
