Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa
Rāma's devoted younger brother who accompanies him into exile.
Seeing those two endowed with beauty, carrying lutes, Rāma then spoke to Lakṣmaṇa, Śatrughna, and Bharata:
His beloved brother Lakṣmaṇa, who increases the joy of Sumitrā, endowed with humility, followed him out of love as he departed.
Lakṣmaṇa, endowed with auspiciousness, was like an external life-breath to that best of men.
