Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa
A rākṣasa sorcerer who warns Rāvaṇa against attacking Rāma but ultimately helps him abduct Sītā by decoying Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa.
Mārīca repeatedly warned Rāvaṇa:
That sorcerer, having lured both princes far away, abducted the wife of Rāma, slaying the vulture Jaṭāyus.
Then Rāvaṇa, hearing of the slaughter of his kinsmen and overcome with fury, sought as his ally the Rākṣasa named Mārīca.
