Barlaam and Josaphat
An old hermit resembling Barlaam, proposed by Arachis as a decoy who will pretend to defend the Christians before being staged to lose the debate.
But if we should not be able to catch him, I know another old hermit, called Nachor, like Barlaam in all respects, who cannot be told apart from him, a man of our own persuasion, and one who became my teacher in the sciences.
And it was noised abroad that Barlaam had been seized, so that the king's son, hearing it, was grievously pained in his soul, and could in no way restrain his tears.
When these had been piously perfected, the king told Arachis, his chief counsellor, to look to the second plan, since the first had failed, and to summon that Nachor.
