Odysseus's loyal stockman, who greets the disguised beggar kindly and hopes for his master's return.
Then a third man, Philoitios, joined them, who was bringing in a barren heifer and some goats.
"If Zeus were to bring this to pass," replied the stockman, "you should see how I would do my very utmost to help him.
They mixed the wine in the mixing-bowls, and the swineherd gave every man his cup, while Philoitios handed round the bread in the breadbaskets, and Melanthios poured them out their wine.
