A female ascetic who honors Rāma on his path, shortly before he meets Hanumān.
Kabandha told him of Śabarī, a female ascetic who walks the path of righteousness, skilled in dharma:
Duly honored by Śabarī, Rāma the son of Daśaratha met on the shore of Pampā with Hanūmān, the monkey.
Even to this day there is seen serving them in that very place an ascetic woman named Śabarī, O descendant of Kākutstha, long-lived.
