Kātyāyana Smṛti
An idealized disciplined wife who serves the sacred fire and, if widowed, remains celibate, thereby attaining heavenly reward comparable to Arundhatī.
A wife who is not separated from her husband, being disciplined, should serve the sacred fire, desiring good fortune, the state of non-widowhood, and being devoted to her husband.
The virtuous woman who, after her husband's death, remains established in celibacy, she, with conduct like Arundhatī's, is glorified in the world of Brahmā.
By her intelligence and service alone, a woman attains all her desires.

During the absence of her husband on a journey the virtuous woman should wear only her auspicious ornaments, and observe the fasts in honour of the Gods.
Moreover she should herself revere the sanctuary of the Household Gods, for says Gonardiya, "nothing so much attracts the heart of a householder to his wife as a careful observance of the things mentioned above.
