Nāradasmṛti
A student who serves a teacher until knowledge is acquired, subject to discipline and duty.
A pupil should diligently serve his teacher until he has acquired knowledge.
A student of sacred knowledge should go on his begging rounds, sleep on the ground, and be unadorned.
He should not stand or stay anywhere without being instructed by his teacher.
Bṛhaspati Smṛti
Persons who perform labor for a master under varied arrangements (pupilage, apprenticeship, hire, slavery), classified by type of work and status.
When a hired servant, having received his wages, does not do the work, if he is able, he should be made to pay a fine and double that wage.
A hired servant who, not being sick, does not do the work as told out of arrogance, he is to be fined eight kṛṣṇalas, and his wages are not to be paid.
Whatever a hired servant does, being appointed by his master, for that impure work, the master is at fault there.
