The Histories
Populous Libyan people known for seasonal migration to Augila, polygamous and communal bridal customs, oath-taking at ancestral graves, dream divination, ritual pledge-drinking, and burying their dead in a sitting position.
They give and receive pledges by each drinking from the hand of the other party;
When a man of the Nasamones weds, on the first night the bride must by custom lie with each of the whole company in turn;
They bury their dead sitting, being careful to make the dying man sit when he releases his spirit, and not die lying supine.
