Atharvaveda (Paippalāda)
The Rakṣas/rākṣasas, a class of malevolent demons repeatedly driven off by protective plants and amulets.
May the golden amulet, newborn, drive away the demons.
Drive away the rākṣasas, drive away those that prowl about;
You, O Darbha, are the corrupter of that one who plots evil against us.
Rigveda
Class of hostile demons repeatedly driven away or scorched by Indra and Agni.
Drive away the Rakṣas;
He of the burning head — let him scorch those rākṣasas who hate the sacred word and deserve the arrow of slaying.
He who, the bull, drives back the rākṣasas with his bright and pure flame — may he carry us across and beyond the hostile.
