Tarkasaṃgraha
Substance whose defining quality is sound; one, all-pervading, and eternal.
Ether is that which has śabda (sound) as its quality.
Sāṃkhyatattvavivecana
Space (ākāśa), proposed and ultimately rejected as the substrate generating the usage of temporal units.
By the Sāṃkhyas it is laid down in the sūtra "space and time [arise] from ākāśa and the rest";
for by any [single] stable limiting adjunct, the usage of "the instant" is impossible [whether] from Great Time or from ākāśa.
