Vrhaspatitattva
The individual soul, produced when Śivatattva is stained by mala, whose fate (mokṣa, heaven, hell, animal or human birth) is governed by the citta.
That is the mind-stuff called *tamas*.
That is the mark of the mind-stuff called *rajas*.
It is then called *ātmā* (soul), which means ‘dazed consciousness.
San Hyan Tattvajnana
The self or soul principle, appearing in multiple states and grades from coarse embodied consciousness to the subtle transcendent Ātmāviśeṣa.
Such is the characteristic of the Divine *Ātmā* in all these subtle states.
The Divine *Ātmā* in the earth element stabilizes in the body of the world.
As for the active *ātmā* in the *turyya* state, it is likened to the tongs of the blacksmith.
