al-Saʻādah fī falsafat al-akhlāq
The natural endowment by which every man has the common human happiness and the discriminating power, insufficient by itself and requiring habituation and art.
This sense is bestowed upon men generally by the innate disposition (fiṭrah) and the first natural constitution, and they surpass one another according to their use of it.
Before this sage, wisdom was scattered, as the rest of the benefits that God, Exalted, brought forth are scattered, the profiting by them being left to the natural constitution of men and to the power He gave them for that — like the medicines that are found scattered in the lands and the mountains:
And let us return to the course of the first discourse and say that the common human happinesses that we mentioned above are bestowed upon us, and we are constituted for them by nature;
Risālat al-Wāridāt
Fiṭrah, the prophet's original constitution, by which the realities are unveiled to him in conformity with wisdom without recourse to thought or inference, and in which an innate longing and connatural light toward his people are implanted.
