Kitāb madhāhib al-Aʻrāb wa-falāsifat al-Islām fī al-jinn
Prophecy as a station whose holders have a different bond of spirit to body and a different temperament, whose veridical perception of spirits is a mark of soundness, and whose mission is proved by the healing of hearts and the strengthening of weak resolve.
This difference is among the most important of the things by which they were set apart, and from it the proof of their prophetic mission stood up.
Risālat al-Wāridāt
Nubūwah, understood as a natural-metaphysical necessity: the sending, in proportion to the species' readiness (istiʻdād) and the entrenchment of corruption, of a person with a sanctified soul whose revelation arises from his own soul and whose character and deeds become the scale for others'.
namely, that He should send among them, from among themselves, one possessed of a sanctified soul purified of every taint of heedlessness, to whom the secrets and the realities are unveiled in conformity with wisdom by the root of his innate disposition (*fiṭrah*), who has no need of thought and reflection in what he aims at, whose revelation is from his own soul;
belief in prophecy is incumbent upon one who denies divinity, let alone upon one who affirms it.
