Bṛhaspati Smṛti

By a subsequent pledge, a prior pledge becomes weak.
The debtor does not get the pledge without mutual consent.

A pledge must not be used by force;
Both a pledge and a sealed deposit are not lost by lapse of time;
and there is no forfeiture of a pledge by lapse of time, nor can it be sold.
