Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa
The capital city of Kosala and the Ikṣvāku dynasty, ruled by Daśaratha and later Rāma.
There stood a city famous throughout the world, called Ayodhyā — a city that Manu himself, the lord of men, had personally founded.
That city of Ayodhyā — true to its name, with firm gates and bolts, adorned with variegated mansions, auspicious, thronged with thousands of men — was ruled by that lord of the earth equal to Śakra.
That great and splendid city extended twelve yojanas in length and three in breadth, with its great avenues well laid out.
