De Anima
The underworld realm where departed souls are held in torment or comfort until judgment.
So the rich man among the dead has a tongue, and the poor man a finger, and there is the bosom of Abraham.
And what is it that is carried off to the lower regions after the divorce from the body, that is detained there, that is reserved unto the day of judgment, to which Christ too descended by dying?
For why should you not think that the soul is both punished and cherished in the lower regions, meanwhile, under the expectation of either judgment, in a certain anticipation, and indeed a foretaste, of it?
Adversus Marcionem
The afterlife resting-place attributed to the dead, named as part of the rival Christ's promise to the Jews.
" But your Christ promises to the Jews the former state, by the restitution of their land, and, after the course of life is run, refreshment in the bosom of Abraham among the dead.
