This world

and man's utmost degree in felicity, and his highest rank in pleasure and joy in this world and the next, is that he should win through to knowledge of the Necessary Existent and of what proceeds from Him in the order in which it exists.

'As for him who was insolent and preferred the life of this world, the Fire shall be his refuge' — and at another time from the sages, by what they demonstrated of the great wretchedness of the souls of the wicked and the dissolute in the life to come, after their parting from bodies.

But when your soul calls you to cast off this world while the world is turning toward you, then be quick to answer it in that, for that is renunciation (zahādah).

and that the believer's spirit ascends to heaven, whereupon the spirits of the believers come to him and ask him for news of his acquaintances among the people of this world — the ḥadīth.

They said that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, departed from this world without knowing the matter of the spirit, and they adduced His words, exalted be He, ( They ask you about the spirit;

and that there is no enemy more hostile to the son of Adam than his own soul, which wants nothing but this world and loves nothing but it, while the spirit calls to the hereafter and gives it preference.
