Bayān zaghl al-ʻilm wa-al-ṭalab
The compiler of the Ṣaḥīḥ, named both as the anchor of the last great generation of hadith men and as one of 'the two shaykhs' whose agreement and separate material al-Ḥumaydī marked.
To this he added a few items he had noticed from the books of al-Dāraquṭnī, especially al-Istidrākāt wa-al-tatabbuʻ, and from the Mustakhraj of al-Ismāʻīlī upon al-Bukhārī, and the Mustakhraj of Abū Bakr al-Khuwārizmī al-Barqānī upon the two Ṣaḥīḥs, and the Aṭrāf al-Ṣaḥīḥayn of Abū Masʻūd al-Dimashqī, and the books of others among the memorizers who concerned themselves with what pertains to the two works:
and after them those who come next, among the shaykhs of al-Bukhārī, Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, al-Nasāʼī, Abū Zurʻah, Abū Ḥātim, Muḥammad ibn Naṣr, Ṣāliḥ Jazarah and Ibn Khuzaymah, and multitudes in a single age, among whom were thousands of memorizers and carriers of the noble science.
al-Saʻādah fī falsafat al-akhlāq
The traditionist whose collection is the object of al-Qasṭallānī's commentary.
[14] (2) This is an anomalous transmission, as al-Qasṭallānī pointed out in his commentary on al-Bukhārī, saying that he found it only in the books of the commentaries.
