"By whom that most wondrous bridge across the ocean has been built — make peace with that king of men, Rāma, O Rāvaṇa.
Then a rākṣasa of very great wisdom named Mālyavān, the maternal great-grandfather of Rāvaṇa, having heard Rāvaṇa's words, spoke.
Having spoken these words there and gauging the mind of the lord of rākṣasas, Mālyavān — that powerful one of supreme manly prowess among the greatest — fell silent and waited, watching Rāvaṇa.
