The Rakṣas, demonic beings that Indra is asked to drive away.

The Rakṣas, the fire that does not dry up, the overpowering one — like a lion in the house, drive away those active in the night.

Root out the Rakṣas together with its roots, O Indra;

slay the Rakṣas, O bountiful, subdue them.

General class of demonic beings warded off by amulets and by the jaṅgiḍa charm.

With the amulet jaṅgiḍa given by the gods, bestower of bliss, we overpower viṣkandha and all the rakṣas-demons in combat.

With its horns it pushes away the Rakṣas, with its root the Yātudhānīs;

this one drives away the rakṣas;
