Risālat baqāʼ al-nafs baʻda fanāʼ al-jasad
Taṣawwur, redefined here in physiological terms as the arousal (intibāh) of a stored form in a cerebral vesicle by a new stimulus, whereby the latent trace becomes an acting force; each conception attaches to one form and one trace only.
when it is aroused by the action of a new external stimulus it turns into an acting force, and there arises what is called conception (*taṣawwur*) — that is, conception is the arousal of a form among the forms of the thinking faculty, as is made clear in the following example:
