Kitāb al-Safīnah al-Nūḥīyah fī al-sakīnah al-rūḥīyah
Al-nafs al-muṭmaʾinnah, the soul in its third state, reached when worship has become second nature and former habits have become harmful, ascending through degrees above degrees.
Likewise the soul at peace has degrees above degrees, just as the commanding soul has descents below descents.
So the soul is that which commands, the spirit is as it were the reproaching soul, and the heart is the soul at peace.
At that point the soul becomes at peace.
