Tarkasaṃgraha
Fifth category; infinite differentiators residing in eternal substances, distinguishing otherwise identical eternal entities.
The viśeṣa (ultimate particularities) are the differentiators residing in the eternal substances.
But the viśeṣa (ultimate particularities), which reside in the eternal substances, are indeed infinite.
dravya (substance), guṇa (quality), karma (motion/action), sāmānya (universal), viśeṣa (ultimate particularity), samavāya (inherence), and abhāva (absence) — these are the seven padārtha (categories, knowables).
Vrhaspatitattva
The ultimate, formless reality beyond being and non-being, identified with the Lord, difficult to grasp and without characteristics.
The holy *viśeṣa* is not non-existent, yet He is also existence itself.
Just as it is with the fire and the oil, so it is with the holy *viśeṣa*.
Since *saṃsāra* is consciousness, it is not right to call consciousness the ultimate (*viśeṣa*).
