Among these, the substances are just nine: earth, water, fire, air, ether, time, direction, self, and mind.

Colour, taste, smell, touch, number, magnitude, separateness, conjunction, disjunction, remoteness, proximity, heaviness, fluidity, viscidity, sound, cognition, pleasure, pain, desire, aversion, effort, merit, demerit, and disposition — these are the twenty-four qualities.

Throwing upward, throwing downward, contraction, expansion, and going — these are the five motions.

sāmānya (Universal) is two-fold: the higher (para) and the lower (apara).
