Ansāb al-ʻArab al-qudamāʼ
The sanctuary city into which ʻAmr ibn Luḥayy is said to have carried the idols from Syria and from the Red Sea coast, making it the centre of Zaydan's account of imported Arab idolatry.
It appears that when the aforesaid ʻAmr came to Moab, the Moabites' worship of this idol pleased him — for they used to seek rain and seek victory of it — and he carried it to Mecca under its Hebrew name “Habaʻl.
They relate that he gained mastery over Mecca, drove Jurhum out of it and took over its custodianship;
