The author of the totemism of the Arabs has held, in the introduction to his book «The Religions of the Semites» and in the book «The Genealogies of the Arabs» with which we are here concerned (page 178), that the Semites arose first in the Arabian peninsula and then branched out, the Hebrews and the Aramaeans going forth from it and peopling the lands about it, while the Arabs remained in it upon their bedouin life.

Ansāb al-ʻArab al-qudamāʼ
The Arabian homeland, held by Smith to have been shared by Arabs, Hebrews and Aramaeans, and the territory across which female infanticide is wrongly assumed to have been universal.
