Oṃ. Homage to glorious Vajrasattva (the Adamantine Being, the primordial buddha of this tradition).
CMP 1.2
Pay homage to the One pure as space and without inherent nature; pay homage to the Whole that is syllable-less and beyond utterance. Pay homage to the all-pervading Sugata who has not [yet] come; pay homage to the One who is wholly, entirely, and in every respect empty.
CMP 1.3
"One should rely upon the meaning (arthapratiśaraṇa (reliance on the import rather than the letter)); as for the word, [let it be] however it may." Thus [it is said].
CMP 1.4
In the tantra: "Of the eighty-four thousand dharma-aggregates of the Great Sage, those who do not know the [single] reality [contained in them]—they are all [striving] in vain." Thus [it is said].
CMP 1.5
Therefore he says: "As a joining-together for the ādikarmika (beginner in practice) in the descent into ultimate [reality], skillful means too has been fashioned by the perfectly awakened ones, like a staircase." Thus [it is said].
