    CMP 4.1

Those who [properly] settle the mind—far-going, lone-wandering, bodiless, lying hidden in the cave [of the heart]—are released from the bondage of Māra. Thus [it is said].

    CMP 4.2

Whatever mind arises dependently through the sense-faculties and their objects—

    CMP 4.3

—that "mind" (manas) is so called from the syllable sa, in the sense of "protecting" (trāṇana), [as it is renowned in the eighty(-thousand teachings)]. Thus [it is said].

    CMP 4.4

Cognition is mere bare awareness (saṃvittimātra (mere bare cognition/awareness)), markless like space; yet it has a division, as twilight, night, and day [i.e. the three lights].

    CMP 4.5

Radiance, radiant-glow, and likewise radiance-attainment—mind is thus said to be threefold (āloka-ālokābhāsa-ālokopalabdhi (the three inner radiances/lights of the dissolution sequence)); its support is [now] declared.

    CMP 4.6

By the wind in its subtle form, cognition has reached a state of [intimate] mixture [with it].

    CMP 4.7

Having issued out along the paths of the senses, it rests upon [its] objects.

    CMP 4.8

When the wind, joined with the [inner] glow, has become the vehicle, then all that [stream of] mental factors (prakṛti) proceeds, scattered and in disarray.

    CMP 4.9

Wherever the wind is stationed, it would carry forth that very mental factor. Thus [it is said].

[Here ends] the fourth chapter, the resolution of doubts about the integration [of the stages, concerning] the isolation of mind (cittaviveka (isolation of mind, a completion-stage phase)). // 4 //
