The four marks of well-spoken speech

The noble ones declare the well-spoken to be supreme: let one speak the pleasant, not the unpleasant—that is the second; let one speak the truth, not falsehood—that is the third; let one speak the Dharma, not non-Dharma—that is the fourth.
