    1. To Sophronius the Master.

If you yourself received a double favour, in that, with your unsurpassable eagerness for good works, you wrote to us — one favour in receiving our letter, a second in supplying our need — how great a favour must we be reckoned to have, both in meeting with the letter of that most sweet voice, and in seeing the need we sought so quickly fulfilled? So that, having gladly received what was sent for its own nature's sake, we welcomed it far more gladly because you were the one who presided over its provision. And may the Lord grant us to see you soon, so that we may acknowledge the favour by word of mouth, and enjoy all the good things in you together.
