Eightfold attainment

[Base sūtra:] {{tuṣṭi / siddhi / aśakti|Attainment}} (siddhi) in eight ways.

[Verse:] The knowledge that arises [even] from afar [i.e. by reasoning] is the first, named "tārā"; knowledge of beings [arising] by mere [hearing of] words is held to be "sutārā";

[Verse:] knowledge [arising] through study, which carries one across, is the third; from the removal of internal (adhyātmika) suffering it is called "pramodā";

[Verse:] from the removal of elemental (ādhibhautika) affliction the attainment "pramuditā" is named; from the removal of divine (ādhidaivika) affliction, knowledge arises for men—

[Verse:] the sixth attainment, of the virtuous, is called "pramodamānā"; from the cessation of [the fault of] affectionate association, the seventh is remembered as "ramyakā";

[Verse:] and the eighth attainment, "pramudā" [sadāpramuditā], [arises] through service and the like to the teacher. Thus these eight attainments, which accomplish knowledge, have been explained.
