    The Definition and Types of Woman's Property

    What is given before the nuptial fire (adhyagni), what is given at the bridal procession (adhyāvāhanika), and what is given to a woman out of affection, and what is received from a brother, mother, or father—Woman's Property (strīdhana) is remembered as six-fold. // K_894 //

    What is given to women at the time of marriage before the sacred fire, that is declared by the good to be strīdhana made before the nuptial fire (adhyagnikṛta). // K_895 //

    What a woman receives again while being led from her father's house, that is declared to be strīdhana of the bridal procession (adhyāvāhanika). // K_896 //

    Whatever is given out of affection by a mother-in-law or a father-in-law, and what is given for bowing at their feet (pādavandanika), is called a gift of affection (prītidatta). // K_897 //

    Whatever value is received for household utensils, vehicles, milch animals, ornaments, and servants, that is declared to be the bride-price (śulka). // K_898 //

    What is received by a woman from her husband's family after marriage, that is called a subsequent gift (anvādheya), and likewise what is received from her own family. // K_899 //

    What is received by a woman out of affection after her marriage ceremony from her husband or parents, that is a subsequent gift (anvādheya), says Bhṛgu. // K_900 //

    What is received by a married woman or a maiden in her husband's or father's house from her brother or parents is remembered as a gift from kindred (saudāyika). // K_901 //
