    Viṣṇu Smriti 49

    Having fasted on the eleventh day of the bright fortnight of the month of Mārgaśīrṣa, on the twelfth day he shall worship the blessed Vāsudeva. // Vi_49.1 //

    With flowers, incense, ointments, lamps, and food offerings, and with propitiations of the fire and of Brāhmaṇas. // Vi_49.2 //

    Having performed this vow for a year, he becomes pure from his sins. // Vi_49.3 //

    Having performed it for his whole life, he attains the White Island. // Vi_49.4 //

    By doing this on the twelfth days of both fortnights for a year, he attains the world of heaven. // Vi_49.5 //

    For his whole life, the world of Viṣṇu. // Vi_49.6 //

    And likewise on the fifteenth days also. // Vi_49.7 //

    Worshipping Keśava, who has become Brahman on the new moon day, and likewise on the full moon day, / And who has become Yoga, one attains greatness. || Vi_49.8 ||

    That full moon day on which the moon and Jupiter are seen together in the sky, / Is called the great one; it occurs once in a year. || Vi_49.9 ||

    On that day, charity, fasting, and the like are declared to be imperishable; / Likewise, the bright twelfth day which is conjoined with the Śravaṇa constellation. || Vi_49.10 ||
