Bayān zaghl al-ʻilm wa-al-ṭalab
The Basran preacher and Successor, named among the carriers of hadith who joined transmission to piety.
From them such men as Masrūq, Ibn al-Musayyab, al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, al-Shaʻbī and ʻUrwah carried it, and their like among the people of hadith, the masters of transmission and of understanding, of truthfulness and worship, of exactness and abstinence — those whose students were such men as al-Zuhrī, Qatādah, al-Aʻmash, Ibn Juḥādah, Ayyūb and Ibn ʻAwn;
But whenever the preacher is like al-Ḥasan or like Shaykh ʻAbd al-Qādir, people profit by him.
Adab al-wazīr
The Basran ascetic and preacher al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī, quoted for the principle that neither hatred nor love may distort a believer's dealings.
Al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī said:
Kitāb madhāhib al-Aʻrāb wa-falāsifat al-Islām fī al-jinn
Ascetic and theologian named among the intellects the jinn could not touch.
ʻAbd al-Muṭṭalib and Abū Bakr and ʻUmar in their time, and with Ghaylān and al-Ḥasan in their age, and with Wāṣil and ʻAmr in their days.
