Kitāb al-Safīnah al-Nūḥīyah fī al-sakīnah al-rūḥīyah
The religious scholars whose two-fold ordering of souls — by species and by the states of a single individual — supplies the author's own alternative to the philosophers' hierarchy.
As for the doctrine of the scholars concerning the ordering of souls and spirits, we say:

Then the souls of the angels — and I do not know whether they differ in their realities, or are a single species having individuals within it, like the soul of man.
Adab al-wazīr
The learned class (ʻulamāʼ), named as the custodians of religion and interpretation and as the estate whose characteristic virtue is worship.
what the subjects have is brought out only by their governors, what the troops have only by their commanders, and what is in religion and interpretation only by its scholars.
worship in the learned, contentment in the discerning, and generosity in men of means.
