Bayān zaghl al-ʻilm wa-al-ṭalab
Figurative interpretation of the scriptural descriptions of God, the variable by which the author sorts the theologians into three parties, each anathematized by the others according to how far it carries the method.
The uṣūlī who drives figurative interpretation (*taʼwīl*) through to the end is, in the eyes of the others, a Jahmī, a Muʻtazilī and a man astray.
