Adab al-wazīr
The opposition of dunyā and ākhirah, the governing frame of the chapter's ascetic counsels to a man holding worldly power.
Nothing will remain after you but your remembrance in this world and your reward in the hereafter;
“The Hour has drawn near, and men only increase in greed for this world, while it only grows further from them.
and set over your solitude a watcher for your sultan, who will hold you back from falling short in his command — so that your religion may be sound in the rights of God Most High, and your worldly estate sound in the rights of your sultan, and you be made happy in your present life and in the life to come.
Bayān zaghl al-ʻilm wa-al-ṭalab
The life to come, used throughout as the yardstick that sorts the sciences into those that furnish provision for the return and those that are merely crafts of this world.
As for natural philosophy, there is no harm in it, but it is no part of the sciences of religion, nor of what brings a man near to God Most High, nor of the provision for the return;
and not for the hereafter, then you have tormented the beast and squandered the time.
