Prose chant: 'Monk, have you crossed the flood?'

[A chant:] "Monk, monk, did you cross the {{ogha:flood|the flood of saṃsāric defilements}}?"—"Yes, deity."—"Did you cross the flood without support and without footing?"—"Yes, deity."—"In what way, monk, did you cross the flood without support and without footing?"—"In just the measure, deity, that I strove, in that measure I sank down; in just the measure that I sank down, in that measure I stood still; in just the measure that I stood still, in that measure I was swept away; [but] in just the measure, deity, that I did not strive, in that measure I did not sink down." Thus is the bright side [of the matter] to be understood in detail.
