Letter 171
Late Antiquity Basil of Caesarea Greek- To Gregory
I wrote to you a while ago, too, about Glycerius and the virgins. But they have not even to this day returned, but still delay — I do not know whence or how. For I would not suspect of you that you do this to my discredit, either yourself feeling something against me, or to gratify others. Let them come, then, fearing nothing; be yourself their surety for this. For we feel pain at the cutting off of our members, even if they were rightly cut off. But if they resist, the burden is on others, and we wash our hands of it.
