    1. Libanius to Basil Whether we have added anything in eloquence to the young men you sent, you yourself shall judge. But I hope that this, even if it be small, will gain the reputation of something great, because of your friendship toward us. And as for what you praise above eloquence—temperance, and the not surrendering of their souls to base pleasures—of this they have taken great care, and have conducted themselves, as was fitting, mindful of him who sent them. Receive, then, what is your own, and praise those who have adorned both you and me by their character. But to summon you to give aid was like summoning a father to give aid to his children.
