Letter 357
Late Antiquity Basil of Caesarea Greek- Libanius to Basil
What has come over Basil, that he should take offence at a letter — the very mark of philosophy? It was from you that we were taught to jest; and yet our jests are dignified, and such as befit, so to speak, grey hairs. But by friendship itself, and by the studies we have shared, dispel for me the despondency that your letter has bred in me . . . in no way different.
