Prapāṭhaka 8
Ancient Anonymous (Vedic) Sanskrit8.1 Know, O Maghavan, know the path in the directions that have been proclaimed. Teach us, O lord of mighty deeds, O Purūvasu, of many ancient gifts.
8.2 With aids of conquest thou art the conqueror; the soma ray is thine own. O all-knowing one, enlighten us, O Indra, for glory and for nourishment.
8.3 For so does Śakra, the wielder of the thunderbolt, come for wealth and sustenance. O mightiest thunderbolt-bearer, thou dost adorn thyself; O most munificent thunderbolt-bearer, thou dost adorn thyself. Come, drink, and be exhilarated.
8.4 Know wealth and heroic strength; become lord of victories, following according to will. O most munificent thunderbolt-bearer, thou dost adorn thyself, thou who art the mightiest among heroes.
8.5 He who is most bountiful among the givers of gifts, his soma ray blazes like fire. The all-wise one, may Indra lead us onward; he is known — praise him.
8.6 For Śakra is the master; we call upon him for protection, the conqueror who is never vanquished. May he set us beyond our foes in the heavenly realm; great is his will, his hymn, and his cosmic order.
8.7 We call upon Indra for the winning of wealth, the conqueror who is never vanquished. May he place us in the solar realm beyond our foes; may he place us in the solar realm beyond our foes.
8.8 Of thine that is ancient, O crusher of stones, the soma draught is for exhilaration. Bestow well-being upon us, O Vasu; O mightiest one, fulfillment is proclaimed. For Śakra, the sovereign, now lays down the new body.
8.9 O lord of the people, O slayer of Vṛtra, let us declare thee in battles. The hero who goes forth among the cattle, the friend who is gracious and undeceitful.
8.10 Even so, O serpent — so indeed. Even so, O Agni. Even so, O Indra. Even so, O Pūṣan. Even so, O gods. Oṃ — even so, O gods.
