[Base sūtra:] The five intellectual faculties (abhibuddhis).

    Tats_8.c1

[Verse:] The {{buddhi / mahat|intellect}} is to be known through [its] inclinations, by its facing-toward action: "this is my task," "I do [it]"—this is determination (adhyavasāya).

    Tats_8.c2

[Verse:] Wish (icchā), longing (vāñchā), then volition (saṅkalpa), and the activity of the mind [i.e. self-conceit, abhimāna]—thus these five intellectual faculties are proclaimed.
