[Base sūtra:] The five vital airs (vāyus).
Tats_10.c1
[Verse:] Prāṇa, apāna, samāna, udāna, and vyāna—these are the five vital airs in the bodies of embodied beings.
Tats_10.c2
[Verse:] That which moves about the mouth and nose is called prāṇa, from [its] breathing (prāṇana); that which moves below the navel for the carrying-down is held to be apāna.
Tats_10.c3
[Verse:] From its location in and leading [of nourishment to] the heart it is proclaimed samāna; from its upward movement from the throat it is remembered as udāna.
Tats_10.c4
[Verse:] From its location in the joints, [and] from [its functions of] dispersing and stretching, [there is] vyāna.
