Letter 315
Late Antiquity Basil of Caesarea Greek- Without address, on behalf of a kinswoman
Being fully persuaded that I shall in no way fail in whatever I ask of your honour with justice on my side, I came eagerly to give this letter to this most decorous woman, who has the care of orphans and keeps a household harder to manage than some many-headed hydra. And on top of all this, there is besides between us a tie of kinship. Therefore we entreat your nobility—both honouring us and preserving the honour owed to the grandfather of the orphans—to furnish some help, so as to make their property bearable to them henceforth.
