Letter 316
Late Antiquity Basil of Caesarea Greek- Without address, on behalf of a man in distress
Though fully persuaded that those who come to your goodness have no need of letters—since you do more, out of the nobility of your character, than anyone could urge you toward the good by entreaty—nevertheless, because of my exceeding care for this son of mine, I have been moved to write to your pure and guileless soul, commending the man to you, and entreating you, in whatever ways may be possible, to furnish him for the matters before him such aid as lies within your power. And that he will need no other protector, once you have deigned to use, with all the power the Lord has given you, his protection on his behalf, I know full well.
